Europe’s New Border Entry System Requirements Begin 2025
Travel Update for Your Next International Journey
EU Travel Information & Authorization System, also known as ETIAS
Part of the excitement of a tour to a foreign land is experiencing the unique culture, breath-taking landscapes, culinary delicacies, and the diversity of its people. But before we can experience any of that we must prepare for our departure.
Beginning 2025, there is a new Europe visa processing system known as the EU Travel Information & Authorization System or ETIAS. Travelers from more than 60 countries who are currently able to travel through most European countries without a visa, will need to apply in advance for authorization to visit.

Most European countries will require visitors from many countries, including USA and Canadian passport holders to obtain an electronic visa in advance of their arrival in Europe beginning 2025.

ETIAS is a travel authorization entry requirement for nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries. It is linked to a traveler’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorization.
With a valid ETIAS travel authorization, you can enter the territory of the European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport and other documents and verify that you meet the entry conditions.
You can fill out the ETIAS application form using either the official ETIAS website or the ETIAS mobile application.
Applying for the ETIAS travel authorization costs expected to be EUR 7 (some exemptions available, visit ETIAS site for details). When filling out the application, you will need to have your passport -valid for at least 6-months beyond your return travel date, and a payment card at hand. You will also be asked to provide your personal information.
You will receive an email confirming the submission of your application which will include your unique ETIAS application number: make sure you keep this number for future reference.
Most applications are processed within minutes. It is possible however that your application may take longer to process. If so, you will receive a decision within four days. Please note that this period could be extended by up to 14 days if you are requested to provide additional information or documentation, or up to 30 days if you are invited to an interview. This is why you should apply for an ETIAS travel authorization well in advance of your planned journey.
Note- The ETIAS application form is currently not in operation and no applications are collected at this point. ETIAS web site and additional details to be advised.
