Upon arrival in Manchester, meet our professional tour guide, who will accompany the group throughout the journey, along with local destination specialists and literary guides. Together, they will bring to life the landscapes, literature, and ancient Christian heritage of each site, helping you see how history, faith, and culture intertwine. After checking in to the hotel our group will gather for our welcome dinner and brief orientation, introducing the theme of the journey: “A Spiritual and Literary Journey Through Northern England and Scotland.” Reflect on how the places you will visit have shaped faith, inspired literature, and nurtured the human longing for God. Share hopes and intentions for the journey, offering gratitude for the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow together in faith and fellowship. Overnight Country Hotel in the Lake District, England

Day 3 Lake District, Grasmere – Wordsworth Country- A Day of Beauty and Inspiration (B)

Begin with a private visit to Dove Cottage and continue to the peaceful surroundings of Rydal Mount & Gardens, the beloved home of poet William Wordsworth. Then step into the quiet sanctuary of St. Oswald’s Church, the local parish where generations have gathered in worship and reflection. As a group, we will share in thoughtful discussion on Wordsworth’s deep reverence for nature as sacred—a vision that beautifully echoes the early Christian sense of wonder at God’s creation. Overnight Country Hotel in the Lake District, England

Day 4 Castlerigg & The Sacred Lakes – A Journey into God’s Creation (B)

Stand in awe at Castlerigg Stone Circle, a pre-Christian sacred site that has drawn seekers for centuries. Surrounded by sweeping mountain views, this place invites reflection on humanity’s enduring search for the divine in creation. (weather permitting) Continue with a scenic walk or peaceful boat ride on the waters of Ullswater, where the stillness of nature offers space for prayer and wonder. As a group, we will gather for discussion on the Psalms of creation and the words of the Romantic poets, exploring how Romanticism itself can be seen as a spiritual response to the enduring sacredness of the natural landscape. Overnight Country Hotel in the Lake District, England

Day 5 Durham – A Living Witness of Faith and Learning, Durham Cathedral Worship (B, D)

Begin with a private tour of Durham Castle, a fortress that has stood for centuries as a symbol of strength and endurance. Step next into the sacred majesty of Durham Cathedral, where the prayers of the faithful have echoed for over a thousand years. Here we will pause at the shrine of St. Cuthbert and give thanks for his life of holiness and missionary zeal, and honor the legacy of the Venerable Bede, whose writings continue to guide the Church in truth and wisdom.

Our journey continues at the University Library, where ancient manuscripts and sacred artifacts reveal the care with which the earliest Christians sought to preserve the Word of God and the story of the Church. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

Together, we will gather in group discussion on Bede’s Ecclesiastical History, reflecting on how early Christian scholarship laid foundations for our own faith today. In Bede’s devotion to both learning and worship, we see the truth that all knowledge finds its fullness when offered back to God. Overnight Newcastle, England

Day 6 Holy Island – A Sacred Place of Pilgrimage (B, D)

Today we journey across the tidal causeway to Holy Island of Lindisfarne (crossing time dependent on the tide), one of the most important centers of early English Christianity, first settled in AD 635. Here, saints such as Aidan and Cuthbert lived lives of prayer, simplicity, and missionary service, leaving a legacy that shaped the faith of a nation. We will enjoy a private tour of the island, walking in the footsteps of monks and pilgrims who for centuries have sought God’s presence in this holy place. There will also be time set aside for personal reflection and prayer, allowing the silence of the island to speak to the soul. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Later, we will gather for group discussion on the gifts of Celtic Christianity—its deep love for creation, its call to missionary work, its simplicity of life, and its enduring vision of retreat with God as strength for service. Overnight Newcastle, England

Day 7 Hadrian’s Wall & Melrose Abbey – From Empire to Faith (B, D)

Begin the day with a visit to a Roman fort and a walk along Hadrian’s Wall, built in AD 122 as a defense of empire. As we trace the stones laid by Roman hands, we reflect on the earthly powers that rise and fall, and the way of Christ that endures beyond all kingdoms.

Continue to Melrose Abbey, a sacred site of early Christianity in Britain. Amid its graceful ruins, we remember the faithful monks who lived lives of prayer, devotion, and service, sowing seeds of faith that shaped a nation. Our group will gather together to explore the great transition from Roman Britain to Christian Britain. We consider how the Gospel transformed hearts and communities, moving from the power of empire to the peace of Christ’s kingdom. Overnight Edinburgh, Scotland

Day 8 Edinburgh – Faith, Imagination, and the Soul of the City (B, D)

Today our guide will lead us on a guided walking tour of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, tracing the streets where faith, culture, and intellect have intertwined for centuries. As you walk, consider how the city itself reflects the enduring human search for meaning, justice, and God’s presence in daily life.

We’ll visit St. Giles Cathedral – Center of Reformation Faith. Step inside St. Giles Cathedral, a 16th-century landmark known as the heart of the Scottish Reformation and the parish church of John Knox. Pause to reflect on the courage of those who sought to reform the Church, standing firm in their convictions for the sake of faith.

Visit the Writer’s Museum to explore the lives of Scotland’s great literary figures—Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Louis Stevenson. Consider how poetry and storytelling can illuminate the human soul and reveal glimpses of divine beauty. Gather as a group to explore the spiritual conflicts and poetic imagination of Edinburgh during the Enlightenment. Reflect on how faith, reason, and creativity can interact, challenge, and enrich one another in the life of a city and the soul of its people. Overnight Edinburgh, Scotland

Day 9 Ayrshire – Walking with the Spirit of Robert Burns

We begin our day with a private guided tour of Burns Cottage, the birthplace of Robert Burns, where the poet’s life and early surroundings invite reflection on humility, human longing, and the creative spirit. Continue to the Burns Museum, exploring manuscripts, letters, and personal artifacts that reveal his inner struggles, moral questioning, and spiritual awareness. Continuing on to visit the Brig o’ Doon, immortalized in Burns’ poetry. Pause to reflect on the enduring human search for love, justice, and virtue, and how the landscape itself inspires contemplation of God’s beauty and truth. Our group will gather to explore Burns’ spiritual wrestling, his moral vision, and humanist perspective. Consider how Burns bridges folk spirituality and modern moral questioning, offering insights into faith, conscience, and the poetic imagination. Overnight Edinburgh, Scotland

Day 10 Edinburgh Independent Exploration (B, D)

Enjoy a day of independent exploration in Edinburgh, allowing time to connect personally with the city’s spirit. Suggestions for your consideration include, Arthur’s Seat – Climb this ancient volcanic hill and pause to witness panoramic views, reflecting on God’s grandeur in creation. National Museum of Scotland – Explore treasures of history and culture, considering how human creativity reflects the image of the Creator. Edinburgh Castle – Stand within the walls of this historic fortress and contemplate the enduring strength of faith and courage through the ages. Later this afternoon our group will gather for a final group discussion, sharing insights, personal reflections, and spiritual growth experienced during the pilgrimage. Consider how each place visited has deepened understanding of faith, creativity, and human longing for God. Together we will celebrate this journey with a farewell dinner, rejoicing in fellowship, shared stories, and the enduring bonds formed on this spiritual pilgrimage. Overnight Edinburgh, Scotland
